Description
Windmills at Campo de Criptana La Mancha Spain (16th century)
The most famous historical period of Campo de Criptana refers to the sixteenth century because this municipality typically manchego and, more specifically, its Sierra de los Molinos was the place that inspired Cervantes to narrate the famous adventure of universal literature of Don Quixote against the Giants. This is attested by the Topographic Relations of Felipe II (1575) and the Catastro del Marqués de la Ensenada (1752), being the only town in the four provinces of La Mancha with so many windmills, a total of 34, more than all the towns of this natural region.
