Animals Always Sculpture at the St. Louis Zoo
If you enter Forest Park from Hampton Avenue, you can't miss it. It's 130 feet long, 36 feet high and 100 tons of Cor-Ten steel. Animals Always is the largest sculpture at any public zoo in the United States. The sculpture features over 60 animals peeking out from behind sculpted trees, ferns and other plant life. The sculptor, Albert Paley, conceived the idea of this steel menagerie more than two years when he met St. Louisan Thelma Zalk, who wanted to bring the idea to fruition at the Saint Louis Zoo. Paley worked closely with Zoo staff to represent animals that are featured at the Saint Louis Zoo. Many of the animals, fish and plant life depicted are also endangered to inspire future generations to protect our natural world.

Biography Greg Kluempers I started developing my style in 1970 when I bought my first 35mm camera and attended several photography and art classes at FVCC. This early work was black and white darkroom photography. I was in my first show in 1972. While working full time as an engineer at Boeing, I returned to Florissant Valley at night in 1999 and completed an associate degree in Photography in June, 2006. During this time, I learned to process color prints in the darkroom, started scanning my film, and learning photoshop to process my scans. In 2008 I purchased my first Canon digital camera and since then I have used only digital. In 2013 I switched over to Sony and I am now using a Sony Alpha a7R III.
