Description
The Railyard has long been a focal point for transportation in Santa Fe. In the late 19th and early 20th century, the site was a key interchange point between three railroads. More recent times brought the convergence of several of the City’s most important roadways, including Cerrillos Road, St. Francis Drive, Guadalupe Street and Paseo de Peralta.
Now in the 21st century, the resurgence of rail travel as a more economic and environmentally friendly means of travel comes to The Railyard with the arrival of the New Mexico RailRunner Express commuter service from points south, along with the continuation of the popular excursion trains of Santa Fe Southern Railway. Travel by foot, bicycle, bus, shuttle, taxi and other alternative modes have become increasingly important, and the redeveloped Railyard accommodates and encourages each of these modes of transportation.
